"The Life of the Trader"
by Phangor Glorrey

A new recruit steps into the hall,
Only to find it's not empty at all.
Traders bustle to and fro,
Never knowing which way to go.
The glint of metal, the clink of a coin.
This boy has found what he wants to join.
That is the life of the Trader.

This boy then delivers a crate of salt,
And then comes to a crashing halt.
His pockets, they are moving.
Why doesn't it feel soothing?
A thief has taken this boy's money,
And it sure isn't funny.
That is the life of the Trader.

This boy soon grows into a man,
Selling gemstones and skins whenever he can.
One day his eyes fall upon a beautiful girl,
"Wait," he says, "first I must sell this pearl".
Money before love.
That is the life of the Trader.

Reputation means everything when you sell.
"This guy looks like a sucker", the man could tell.
He bangs the gavel once.
He bangs the gavel twice.
He announces, "Sold!" and bangs the gavel thrice.
Off to the bank he goes,
His pockets hanging down to his toes.
That is the life of the Trader.

"Land ho!" the man shouts as an island comes into view.
The crew scrambles about his ship, there is much to do.
Drop the anchor!
Ready the crate!
This shipment can't be late!
And so he delivers the goods and sails away,
Drifting across the pale blue ocean, day after day.
That is the life of the Trader.

Now our man is grizzled and old,
But nonetheless still wise and bold.
His life was spent in glory and riches,
And now he can buy those 200plat gold-threaded britches!
Fashion is very important.
That is the life of the Trader.

His family is upon him, as he lays down to die.
"Children, don't cry," his wife says as she looks him in the eye.
"Fear not, my family," he says before he dies,
"My fortune is now yours," and then his wife cries.
For he has passed onto the starry road.
Money and love go hand in hand in the end.
That is the life of the Trader.
