Our co-lo, where the Simutronics servers are located, needs to do some work on the electrical line leading to our area. We will need to shut down all of the servers while they do their work starting at 10:30 AM ET. We will do additional preventative server maintenance during the outage. This should take 4-5 hours. We anticipate restarting around 3 PM ET. This means everything will be closed: games, website, forums, wiki, store. Anytime you shut down a computer that has been running for years without a restart, there is a chance that it will not restart properly. If that happens, the affected server will be slower restarting than the rest while we work on it. We will update you if that occurs and delays any of the key parts returning to service. Everything seems up and good. We'll keep monitoring things, but you are free to return to Elanthia now!

When we institute the changes, passwords will need to have the case that we have stored. Passwords entered using incorrect case will be treated as invalid. If you've been using some uppercase letters in your password, that may not match what we have stored. In many cases, the password was stored with all letters lowercase. We are expecting to do this update on September 13th, 2016. You can update your password now at https://www.play.net/gs4/account/change_password.asp. If you do not recall your password, you can have a password reset email sent to the email address we have on record for your account at https://www.play.net/gs4/login/login_help.asp. On Monday, February 22nd, our IT department is planning to move our Data Center to a new co-location facility. As would be expected, this means the website, the forums, and all of our games will be down until this move is complete. The move will begin at approximately 9am Eastern and will probably take most of the day to complete and may very well bleed over into Tuesday morning.

Once this move is complete, it will serve as the new permanent home for our servers and utilize multiple ISP feeds, which should help us significantly reduce (if not eliminate) ISP-related downtimes.

ISP Maintenance - 7-29-2008

Out ISP has identified an issue with a network device that aggregates connections to customer locations in the Saint Louis area. The maintenance will clear an error that, if not addressed, could cause service related issues. This maintenance is scheduled to begin at 00:01 CDT on 07/29/08 and will be completed by 05:00 CDT on 07/29/08. In this window, SAVVIS engineers will be replacing defective hardware from a local backbone router. Customers may experience service outages, latency, or other connectivity issues as the work is completed.

Extended Maintenance Scheduled for 7-16-08

On Wednesday, July 16, our On-site Techs will be migrating the Billing Database over to their new servers, beginning at approximately 3:00 AM Eastern and ending at approximately 11:00 AM Eastern.
No new logins will be possible during this 8-hour time-period, however, any customers who are already logged in to any game should remain logged in, although some in-game services related to account status (i.e., checking Premium Time, for example) may be unavailable.
In addition, the entire website (including Forums, Account Services, etc.) will be down during this time.

Potential Connectivity Issues

Simutronics Maintenance June 12th

Simutronics will be conducting maintenance on a firewall on Thursday, June 12th at 7 AM Eastern. This maintenance will take approximately an hour and should be completed by 8 AM Eastern. During the maintenance, you will be unable to log into your game, the website or the forums.

Network Outage Saturday Morning

Our Internet Service Provider will be doing maintenance which will result in a network outage sometime between 1 AM and 6 AM Eastern time, Saturday, April 28th. The outage is supposed to last approximately an hour. Unfortunately, we do not have any more specific time frame.

Emergency Maintenance 1 PM - 2 PM Eastern

Due to the need for Emergency Hardware Maintenance, the website, forums, and any other features of Play.Net that require you to "log in" to something will be unavailable on Friday, April 27th, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
This also means that while all games should be up and running, you will not be able to log in during that period and, if you get disconnected, you will not be able to return until this maintenance has been completed. If you are already logged into the game during this time period, you should not notice any issues and should not have any problems related to this situation.

Winter Storm in St. Louis, Billing Closed

AOL Email Difficulties

Simutronics.com and play.net domains are having an extremely difficult time sending email to aol.com addresses. We have been rate limited by AOL due to the amount of spam being delivered to those addresses. The email marked as spam is primarily coming from spammers who are taking advantage of the account@play.net program that we offer to our customers. This makes the spam appear to be coming from Simutronics.
We are taking additional aggressive steps to reduce the amount of spam, but as you are probably aware, the spammers are also taking aggressive steps to bypass checks used by anti-spam software.
At this point, we suggest changing your email address to something other than aol.com to continue to receive email from Simutronics or through your account@play.net. There are many free email sites available, such as Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. There are also any number of smaller free email sites that you may choose.
We apologize for this situation. We are monitoring it closely and hope to have a better solution soon.
