Crazed Madman | Areas Sighted: Grassland Road, Crossings area. Outside Dirge. |
Description: Standing on two legs the crazed madman is humanoid size. Its eyes blaze with a burning hatred, unfocused but entirely malevolent.
Equipment: Short sword/carving knife, flowing robes. | Rating: * |
Adan'f Mage | Areas Sighted: Woods, Shard area. |
Description: Like all of the Adan'f race, the mage vaguely resembles a large lizard, complete with reddish-black scales and forked tongue. Slitted golden eyes are set deeply into its narrow skull, over triple rows of gleaming pointed teeth. A long, sinuous neck leads down to a slender, almost frail, body. Its delicate tail is tipped with one gleaming talon, though the tail appears too weak to use as a weapon. The mage wears a long hooded cloak of deep black cloth, its surface lumpy with concealed items. One of its three-fingered hands holds an oak staff topped with a jackal's skull.
Equipment: Jackal skull staff, black cloak, rusted chain, dented visored helmet. | Rating: ***** |
S'sugi Malchata | Areas Sighted: Korgi, Pokekehekepi area. |
Description: Alien in appearance, the s'sugi malchata could be mistaken for a humanoid at a great distance. However, up close there's no room for uncertainty. An insect-like head and slitted yellow eyes cap a sinuous three part body. Long, segmented appendages protrude out of the creature's back, hooked around its torso like an extra set of ribs. Short, jagged claws cap its humanoid-hands, and wavering antennae probe the air. Oddly, the s'sugi malchata's multi-jointed legs don't make contact with the ground, it appears to hover above the Pokekehekepi on an invisible cushion.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Gypsy Marauder | Areas Sighted: Ker' Leor, Theren area. |
Description: Cavalier, dashingly-dressed and filled with the wild blood of the gypsy, the marauder cuts an impressive figure despite his penchant for murder and mayhem.
Equipment: Hunting sword, regular shield, chain shirt, cloak. | Rating: **** |
Warklin Mauler | Areas Sighted: Poho-dapi'botuk, Pokekehekepi area. |
Description: The warklin mauler greatly resembles some of the more exotic tropical beetleforms, inasmuch as it has many legs, and a hardened carapace surrounding its segmented body. The two legs closest to its face are awkward looking, being bent back up over thick shoulder joints, and then arcing forward in wicked scythe-like points. The remaining legs are wide, and short, holding the hard-shelled body close to the ground. Glossy black eyes peer out from within the shadowy depths of a plated visor-like shell protrusion, looking adroitly ahead. What makes it different from its armored cousin is that the shell on the mauler is about five times thicker, and hence the mauler is much slower than its light infantry relative.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Moss Meys | Areas Sighted: Leth Deriel area. Aesry area. |
Description: The mey smiles tauntingly, as her pale luminosity shimmers in the misty light. Her tangled hair and slender figure have a bit of the greenish-grey hue of the trees and mist, and she herself does not appear completely real and solid.
Equipment: None. | Rating: *** |
Olensari Mihmanan | Areas Sighted: Desert, M'Riss. |
Description: Formed entirely of bleached bones, the olensari mihmanan is obviously no natural beast. Its joints seem oddly fused, as though the creature was carved rather than assembled. One clawed arm hangs loosely by its side while the other juts up and back, set much like the business end of a stout catapult. A jagged fragment of broken bone rests in this skyward hand, ready to be propelled forward in the blinking of an eye.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Dobek Moruryn | Areas Sighted: Underneath Ratha. |
Description: The dobek moruryn is a relative to the classic scorpion that has grown to a phenomenal size. Rivaling a ram in mass, the moruryn has been know to kill and eat almost anything it could sink its pincers into. Legend suggests Urrem'tier created them to protect the caverns from any intruders and to prevent them from making it back to the outerworld.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Blood Nyad | Areas Sighted: Forest of Night, Leth area. |
Description: Looking more like a sculpture of ruddy water than anything human, the blood nyad may have been beautiful once, but that beauty has long since faded, leaving a twisted, terribly disfigured creature that stares at you with blazing red eyes.
Equipment: Kris, leather jerkin | Rating: ** |
Scout Ogre | Areas Sighted: Crossing area, Riverhaven area. |
Description: The scout ogre looks like it might be female, but since you're not an ogre it's hard to tell. She's half again as tall as a Gor'Tog and twice as broad, and while she seems to rely more on agility than strength, she's tough and wiry and more than strong enough. Her red eyes flicker with cold aggression, and her huge, warty nose is doubtless very attractive to the males of her tribe.
Equipment: None. | Rating: **** |
Young Ogre | Areas Sighted: Crossing area, Riverhaven area. |
Description: The ogre, although young, is still huge. Half again as tall as a Gor'Tog and three times as broad, he's obviously gone through his final growth spurt. His tusks aren't very long, and he's not quite as bulky as his older relatives, but he looks quick and agile enough to wield a weapon well. His big red eyes flicker back and forth, and he mutters to himself under his breath.
Equipment: None. | Rating: *** |
Nipoh Oshu | Areas Sighted: Aesry area. |
Description: Swirling wisps of steam hang together in an amorphous cloud of vapor, with crude limbs protruding from its mass, waving as if held in in a breeze. Two malevolent eyes glare hatefully from deep within its body.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Peccary | Areas Sighted: M'Riss. |
Description: At first glance, you think "boar" but when you see the peccary in full, and notice the three-toed hind feet, you realize this is a different animal entirely. However, like the common boar, the tiny eyes and massive snout are caged behind two mean-looking curved tusks. Its startlingly white lips contrast sharply with its dark grey, almost black hide.

Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Grey Poloh'izh | Areas Sighted: Hara'jaal. |
Description: The grey poloh'izh is land lizard with a tough skin of small and slightly iridescent scales. Faint variations of grassland colors ripple across its hide continually, making it somewhat difficult to focus upon. It lashes its narrow tail back and forth with a whip-like snap.
Equipment: None. | Rating: ***** |
Croff Pothanit | Areas Sighted: Brambles, Crossings area. |
Description: The croff pothanit is a husky, four-footed animal with short legs and sharp front claws. It's covered with long quills which make it hard to judge anything past its general shape, but it appears to be particularly strong about the neck and shoulders. A pair of long, straight tusks protrude from its lower jaw, shiny white and flattened at the ends, which are very sharp and remind you of chisels.
Equipment: None. | Rating: * |
Meadow Ram | Areas Sighted: Northeast Vineyards, Crossings area. West Wilds, Riverhaven area. |
Description: Though nearly five feet tall, and equipped with a deadly set of curved horns, the ram seems more interested in chomping on grass than running down visitors to its home.
Equipment: None. | Rating: * |

Faenrae Reaver | Areas Sighted: Silverwater Mines, Crossing area. |
Description: About five foot in height, the faenrae reaver is a vicious creature with glowing green eyes and withered gray flesh. Its lips are curled back from its teeth to reveal sharp fangs, and its hands end in wickedly jagged claws. Clad in earthly armor, the faenrae reaver floats a few inches off the ground, but moves as if it touched the earth. A mane of flowing black hair flies behind it like a banner, ragged and tangled by the wind. Bowlegged and humanoid, the faenrae reaver stares at you with pure madness in its eyes and a crazed, drunken sneer on its lips.
Equipment: Battle axe, oval shield, reinforced leather greaves, reinforced leather vambraces, leather coat | Rating: ** |
Ruffian | Areas Sighted: Undershard, Crossings area. |
Description: Like so many people who moved to Shard in the hopes of acquiring a new dream and a new life, the ruffian is one of many who failed, having little choice but to take up the life of common scum just to get by in the world. From the way he eyes your money pouch, however, you're not sure exactly how much pity you can dish out to this person. After all, the ruffian >did< make the decision to live his life this way...right?

Skeletal Sailors | Areas Sighted: Ratha. |

S'lai Scout | Areas Sighted: Foothills / Mountains, Crossings area. |
Description: Looking like nothing so much as a ill-bred cross between a bat and some sort of diminutive lizard-man, the S'lai are a vicious breed of nocturnal cave-dwellers. The Scout's furry, reptilian head sits atop a dark, scaly torso which in turn is covered with a slight coat of dark hair. Two stubby legs, lizard-like in appearance, end in a pair of wide feet, each equipped with four long, bony toes. Its arms are more humanoid-looking, covered in a dense layer of dark fur from its shoulders down to its monkey-like paws. Perhaps the oddest aspect of this S'lai's appearance is its vestigial pair of webbed, bat-like wings which protrude from its shoulders.
Equipment: Quarter Staff. | Rating: ** |
Silverfish | Areas Sighted: Crossing. |
Description: Silverfish are table-sized creatures encased in a hard, silvery exoskeleton. Three tail-like appendages at the end of their abdomen look strong enough to shatter bone and their front legs sport a razor sharp edge. Mandible clattering incessantly, these are hive creatures and their primal instinct is to bring food to the nest. Any food.
Equipment: None. | Rating: * |

Skunk | Areas Sighted: Monastery, Crossing area. |
Description: A long white stripe of fur parts the skunk's black mass of hair from head to tail. Its beautiful coat and diminutive size makes the animal appear harmless, but one whiff of its foul smelling spray should easily change such thoughts.
Equipment: None. | Rating: * |
Lesser Sluagh | Areas Sighted: Zaulfung, Riverhaven area. |
Description:
The lesser sluagh is a foul-smelling, foul-tempered, foul-looking beast
that makes a mother-in-law seem positively angelic. Seven feet tall, muscle-bound,
and wearing some kind of ragged, odiferous hide over its own none too lovely
grey skin, it stares with bloodshot eyes and an evil leer. It is a living
creature rather than an undead one, though you can't imagine it being any
uglier or meaner were it undead. Kind of makes you wonder about the greater ones, doesn't it? |
|
Equipment: Sling, small stones. | Rating: *** |
Snowbeast | Areas Sighted: The Gash/Dragonspine mountains/paths near gondola at night, Shard area. Cliffs of Aesry. |
Description: With a pure white coat and gleaming green eyes, the snowbeast appears to be a cruel hybrid of a snow leopard and a timber wolf, except pushed into a hideously twisted and expanded form. Patches of its fur have been rubbed off from its own frantic scratching, revealing a scaley surface underneath. Drooling with a frantic and permanent need for food, nothing sates it so easily as warm, tender red meat.
Equipment: None. | Rating: **** |
Tortured Soul | Areas Sighted: Dunshade Manor, Riverhaven area. |
Description: Expanding and contracting, the tortured soul is hard to make out. Basically humanoid in form in shape it's body twists and shudders as if in excruciating pain. At times it takes on some solidity and the vague form of a person in torment can be seen. While its body may be nothing but a twisted mass of essence, its teeth and claws look real enough, willing and able to rend your soul from your body!
Equipment: None. | Rating: *** |

Description: The dark spirit is a mass of swirling shadow given substance. Clothed in little but the rag of a robe, its hands are terribly jagged claws, its eyes a glowing sanguine color. The creature appears to have the mentality of the damned, moving with intention and deadly grace as it floats about.
Equipment: Shadow gear. | Rating: **** |
Pale Grey Death Spirit | Areas Sighted: Monastery, Crossings area. Dunshade Manor, Riverhaven area. Ratha. |

Equipment: Shadow gear. | Rating: ***** |
Fire Sprite | Areas Sighted: Skeleton's Crook, Crossings area. |
Description: A fire sprite is a lithe, agile creature with ruddy skin and flowing red hair. Her bright, flashing sanguine eyes are filled with burning rage as she dances about in a ceaseless blur of motion. Beautiful in a charming manner, there is an obvious -- if subtle -- madness about the sprite that undermines her deceptively sweet, childlike nature.
Equipment: Battle axe/damaged greatsword/scorched greatsword/blackened greatsword/gleaming greatsword, scorched shroud. | Rating: * |
Water Sprite | Areas Sighted: Forisaad, Crossings area. |
Description: Lithe and incredibly agile, this fair-skinned water sprite is at once breathtakingly beautiful and alarmingly dangerous. Coal-black eyes mirror the madness raging within her mind, while her intoxicating dance speaks of childlike simplicities and a deceptively charming demeanor. No taller than an adolescent Elf, and certainly quite alluring, a water sprite is nonetheless an unpredictable, menacing creature.
Equipment: Short swords, slippers. | Rating: * |
Faenrae Stalker | Areas Sighted: Undershard, Shard area. |
Description: A cousin to the faenrae reaver, the faenrae stalker is less ugly, but no less intimidating than its twisted relative. Night-black fur covers its body, causing it to blend easily into the comfort of shadows, and coal black eyes that offer no hint of white gaze back coldly at the world. A migrant from the Dark Hand, the stalker shows little mercy, and is infamous for its tendency to use "dirty tricks" when backed into a corner. Lithe and slender, the stalker has a fluid, unnerving way of moving as it floats just off the ground.
Equipment: Broadsword, oval shield, chain shirt, chain gloves. | Rating: ***** |
